Workshop on the Role of Parliaments in Scientific and Technological Developments was held

On 14 February 2024, workshop titled "The Role of Parliaments in Scientific and Technological Developments and Legislative Support in TURKPA Member States" was held online within the framework of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations.

The workshop brought together experts from member parliaments, officials of relevant public institutions and academics, as well as representatives of the TURKPA Secretariat.

In his opening speech, Chairman of the Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations, member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Osman Mesten emphasized the role of parliaments in budget allocation, budget control, creation of educational infrastructure, provision of incentives and support in scientific and technological developments that positively affect the development of TURKPA member states. Representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Asylkhan Bibosynov and of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Kubanichbek Murataliev delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.

The speeches and presentations at the workshop addressed the role of parliaments in supporting the development of science and technology through legislative activities. Furthermore, the concept of "Society 5.0", based on scientific and technical progress and linked to "Industrial 4.0", was emphasized. It was noted that parliaments are one of the areas where artificial intelligence can be applied.

The workshop moderated by Secretary of the Commission Kadir Yaman concluded with final evaluations.
