Mr. Ramil Hasanov was elected as the first Secretary General of TURKPA at the first Meeting of Plenary Session of the Assembly held on 29 September 2009 in Baku for a four year term.

Mr. Hasanov was born on 23 September 1978. He holds Bachelor’s Degree from Faculty of History of Baku State University and Master’s Degree from Faculty of International Relations of Baku State University where he is a PhD student from 2007.

Previously, Mr. Hasanov served as a Member of Board of Garadagh Municipality (city of Baku) during 1999-2002 and as a Head of Department at the State Committee on Affairs with Diaspora from 2002 till his election to new post as the Secretary General of TURKPA.

Mr. Hasanov also teaches “Contemporary Azerbaijani Foreign Policy” at the Faculty of International Relations of Baku State University from 2008 and serves as a Chairman of Youth Organization of New Azerbaijan Party (Governing party in Azerbaijan since 1993) from 2005.

The Secretary General’s mandate includes responsibility for managing the affairs of the Assembly, ensuring the efficiency of the Secretariat, and carrying out the decisions adopted on the Plenary Sessions of the Assembly. He reports to the Chairman of the Assembly and the Council of Assembly.

His Deputy Secretaries General are also elected at the Plenary Sessions of the Assembly and represent each Member-Parliament. He appoints and directs the staff of the Secretariat and works with the Secretaries General of Member-Parliaments to prepare and administer the budget of the Assembly. He is responsible for the management of the Assembly’s financial resources.

He represents the Assembly at various official meetings of TURKPA and such other meetings and functions that may be appropriate. He also maintains regular contacts with Heads and Members of Delegations, and Member-Parliaments’ officials.

The Secretary General regularly reports on the work of the International Secretariat.
