Secretary General attended international forum held in Saint Petersburg

On 18-19 May 2023, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er took part at the International Forum under the theme “Saint Petersburg – the Parliamentary Capital of the Commonwealth” held on the occasion of the 320th anniversary of Saint Petersburg. The event was co-organized by the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the CIS (IPA CIS), Government of Saint Petersburg and Saint Petersburg Legislative Assembly.

The program of the Forum included roundtables on the themes “Youth Parliamentarism – School for the Formation of the Legal and Political Culture of the Youth”, “Development of Cooperation across the CIS: Special Features of Saint Petersburg Practices”, “Saint Petersburg Legislative Assembly: Experience of International Parliamentary Cooperation” and “Parliamentarism in the Context of Global Transformations”, as well as a Plenary Session.

On the sidelines of the Forum, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er met with IPA CIS Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy, parliamentarians from the TURKPA member states and other participants taking part in the event.

Parliamentarians from the member states, representatives of international organizations, academic communities, youth organizations and experts took part in the Forum.

The event aimed at contributing to the development of parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue, and to the study of the experience of inter-parliamentary cooperation. The discussions during the Forum focused on the issues such as the development of youth parliamentarism, collaboration between legislative bodies in the region and parliamentary cooperation against the backdrop of new challenges.
