Secretary General attended Baku Conference of Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network

On 30 June 2022, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er took part in the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network held in Baku, Azerbaijan at the Heydar Aliyev Center.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev attended the conference and addressed the event.

Making a speech at the event, Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova informed the participants on the agenda of the conference.

The conference adopted the Baku Declaration and the Statute on working modalities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, approved the organization's official logo and flag, and elected its chair and vice-chairs.

On 1 July 2022, during the conference Secretary General made a speech on the theme of the event “Boosting the role of national parliaments in promoting global peace and sustainable development”. In his speech, the Secretary General spoke about the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy in our modern world, as well as the important role of parliamentary cooperation and interaction within inter-parliamentary assemblies in achieving peace and sustainable development in the world.

The conference brought together parliamentary delegations from more than 40 countries, and representatives of 9 international parliamentary organizations.

Participants of the Baku conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network will visit the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, including the cultural capital Shusha, and familiarize themselves with the reconstruction and landscaping work.
