The First Meeting of Heads of Foreign Affairs Committees of TURKPA Member Parliaments was held

On 9 March, 2022 the First Meeting of the Heads of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the TURKPA Member Parliaments was held online within the framework of the Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations. The meeting took place under the theme of “The Role of Parliaments in Foreign Policy Cooperation”.

The event was attended by the Heads of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the member parliaments, as well as the parliaments of Hungary and Uzbekistan, and representatives of the TURKPA Secretariat.

The opening session was addressed by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Mr. Akif Çağatay Kılıç, the Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations Mr. Erol Kaya and TURKPA Secretary General Mr. Mehmet Süreyya Er.

Chairman of the Committee on Foreign and Interparliamentary Relations of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Samed Seyidov, Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mrs. Aigul Kuspan, the Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Defense, Security and Migration of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Chingiz Aidarbekov, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (Chair of the Session) Mr. Akif Çağatay Kılıç, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Hungarian National Assembly Mr. Zsolt Németh and Chairperson of the Committee on International and Inter-parliamentary Relations of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Dilorom Fayziyeva made speeches during the meeting.

The participants made speeches on the matter, including the role of parliaments in foreign policy and prospects for cooperation in foreign policy issues of common interest.

Emphasizing the importance of holding such meeting for the first time within TURKPA, the participants agreed on to hold the next second meeting in the in-person format in the future, hosted by the Turkish Parliament.
