Eighth Summit of Turkic Council held in Istanbul

TURKPA Secretary General participated at the Eighth Summit of the Turkic Council held on 12 November 2021 in Istanbul under the theme "Green Technologies and Smart Cities in the Digital Age". 

The Summit hosted by H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey was addressed by H.E. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Sadyr Zhaparov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, H.E. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of the Republic of Turkmenistan,  H.E. Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary and H.E. Baghdad Amreyev, Secretary General of the Turkic Council.

The importance of further development of relations and expanding of multilateral cooperation, as well as facilitation of trade relations between the Turkic Speaking countries were discussed during the meeting.

The summit was marked by significant decisions such as changing the name of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States to the Organization of Turkic States, granting observer status to Turkmenistan at the Organization, adoption of Turkic World Vision 2040, establishment of the Turkic Investment Fund, creation of Partner Status at the Organization, as well as decision on the Regulation on Honorary Chairman of the Organization of Turkic States.

The Summit was concluded with signing of the Istanbul Declaration of the Eighth Summit of the Turkic Council by the Heads of State.

Opening ceremony of the new building of the Secretariat of the Turkic Council was also held with participation of Heads of State and Government within the framework of the Summit.
