TURKPA delegation attended Forum “Global inter-parliamentary cooperation in achieving SDGs” in Bukhara
On 23-24 June 2021, TURKPA delegation comprised of the parliamentarians of the member countries and representatives of the TURKPA Secretariat took part in the international Forum on “Global inter-parliamentary cooperation in achieving Sustainable Development Goals” held in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
Chairperson of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Mrs. Tanzila Narbayeva delivered a message from the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed to the Forum. Chairperson of the Senate Mrs. Tanzila Narbayeva, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Mr. Nurdinzhon Ismoilov, IPU Secretary General Mr. Martin Chungong, OSCE PA President Mr. Peter Lord Bowness, TURKPA Secretary General Mr. Altynbek Mamaiusupov, Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations Mr. İsmet Uçma, APA Secretary General Mr. Mohammad Reza Majidi, UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Mrs. Helena Fraser also delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Chairman of the UN Economic and Social Council Mr. Akram Munir sent a video message to the Forum.
In his speech, Secretary General Altynbek Mamaiusupov noted the special attention of Uzbekistan to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly gender issues, women empowerment, poverty eradication and economic development. Emphasizing the significant contribution of Uzbekistan to achieving SDGs and the development of the overall region, Mr. Mamaiusupov mentioned that its participation in the activities of the Assembly would foster the further strengthening of cooperation between the Turkic-speaking countries.
He mentioned the role of parliaments and inter-parliamentary cooperation in achieving SDGs and expressed readiness for cooperation with other international organizations in this context.
Mr. Recep Şeker and Mr. Osman Mesten delivered speeches in the thematic sessions, on “Health transformation model in the context of Turkey’s national development strategies” and “Youth Parliament. Experience of Turkey”, respectively.
The Forum was co-organized by Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Cabinet of Ministers, Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction and United Nations Agencies in Uzbekistan. Heads and members of parliaments, heads and representatives of international organizations, experts took part in the event.
The discussions in the Forum were focused on the role of parliaments in ensuring effective implementation of the SDGs, its funding, creation of statistical indicators, participation of civil society institutions and public, parliamentary control and evaluation, global partnership of parliaments in this direction.
