Statement of TURKPA Secretary General on Incident at the Kyrgyz-Tajik Border
I express my deep concern over the armed incident took place on 29 April 2021 and resulted in several dozens deaths and wounded from among the Kyrgyz citizens and devastated infrastructure. I recall the inadmissibility of violence and importance to take measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
I would like to note that centuries-long ties of friendship and good neighborhood between Kyrgyz and Tajik people enable to settle differences in peaceful and constructive manner. Nevertheless, destructive forces engender apprehension, whose actions must be curbed by both sides in accordance with legislation since such-like situations could have tragic implications for the entire region. In this light, appeal of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov to keep peace and defy provocative actions gains particular importance.
I remind of all the incidents that have taken place at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border and emphasize the aspect of whole responsibility of a state instigating further escalation of conflict.
In the context of afore-mentioned, I would like to refer to the necessity to observe the principle of justness and national interest of each side. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan has a positive example with other neighboring countries as regards the resolution of similar disputes.
On behalf of the TURKPA Secretariat and on my own, I extend my condolences to the families of those died during the border clashes and wish fast recovery of the injured.
