TURKPA observers held meetings in Baku
TURKPA International Observers Mission has arrived in Baku to conduct a short-term monitoring of the early parliamentary election to be held on 9 February 2020. The Mission led by Mr. İsmet Uçma, Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations, is comprised of parliamentarians - Mr. Berik Ospanov (Kazakhstan), Mrs. Dinar Nuketayeva (Kazakhstan), Mr. Ziiadin Zhamaldinov (Kyrgyzstan), Mr. Bakhadyr Suleimanov (Kyrgyzstan), Mr. Almazbek Baatyrbekov (Kyrgyzstan), Mr. Yaşar Karadağ (Turkey), as well as diplomatic staff of the TURKPA Secretariat.
On 8 February, the Mission held a meeting at the TURKPA Secretariat and exchanged views on the key directions of the observation programme.
On the same day, observers met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Mr. Ramiz Hasanov. Mr. Hasanov welcomed the observers and stressed the importance of TURKPA’s election observation in the context of ensuring respect to for democratic values and transparency during the entire electoral process.
Head of the Mission Mr. Uçma noted the calm and peaceful atmosphere during the pre-election period and expressed his confidence that the elections would be held in fair, free and transparent manner.
On the election day, the Mission will monitor elections in Baku, as well as Shamakhi and Gobustan. On 10 February, the Mission will give a press conference and present statement on the outcomes of its observation.
