IPU Assembly was attended by TURKPA
TURKPA Chairman-in-Office and the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) Mr. Mustafa Şentop attended the 141th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and related meetings took place in Belgrade, Serbia from 13 to 17 October 2019.
Over 1700 parliamentarians, including delegations from TURKPA member parliaments, and UN and civil society partners from around the world met in Belgrade that featured general debate on a theme of “Strengthening international law: Parliamentary roles and mechanisms, and the contribution of regional cooperation”. During the Assembly, parliamentarians also discussed the latest developments to improve gender equality, empower young people, defend human rights and achieve universal health coverage.
At the same time, participants of the Assembly celebrated the 130th anniversary of the IPU which was founded in 1889, as well as marked the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions.
Secretary of TURKPA Commission Emin Hasanov also attended the 141th IPU Assembly.
