On 14 December 2018, the 5th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has kicked off in Baku. The theme of the conference jointly organized by Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and IPU, was “Promoting sustainability, protecting the interests of future generations”.
The two-day conference, which gathered young parliamentarians from all around the world, offered an opportunity to share ideas and expertise and to rally around a common vision that safeguards the prosperity and well-being of future generations. The conference discussed three sub-topics such as the role of youth in environmental protection; sustainable consumption and production; prioritizing youth empowerment.
The opening session was addressed by Mr. Ogtay Asadov, Chairman of Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Gabriela Cuevas Barron, the IPU President, Ms. Mourine Osoru, President of the IPU Forum of Young Parliamentarians and Mr. Azad Rahimov, Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan. Then the conference continued its work with various panels.
TURKPA delegation comprised of Mr. Altynbek Mamaiusupov, Secretary General, Mr. Fuad Alakbarov, Deputy Secretary General and Mr. Emin Hasanov, Secretary of Commission on Environment and Natural Resources, also attended the conference.
On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Mamaiusupov met with the members of IPU delegations of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkey, as well as Ms. Mourine Osoru, President of the IPU Forum of Young Parliamentarians.
