Sixth Summit of Turkic Council took place in Kyrgyzstan

The Sixth Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council), was held on 3 September 2018 in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan and hosted by H.E. Sooronbai Zheenbekov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Summit took place under the theme “Youths and National Sports” and was attended by H.E. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey, whereas H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and H.E. Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary took part as guests the Summit.

TURKPA Secretary General Altynbek Mamaiusupov, TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kaseinov and President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Ms. Gunay Afandiyeva also participated at the Summit.

During the Summit, the Heads of State delivered their speeches and shared their views on further development on the cooperation between Turkic Speaking states. Furthermore, the Heads of State were informed of the last activities of the Turkic Council, including those projects and initiatives implemented since the last Fifth Summit.

The Sixth Summit was marked by significant decisions, such as granting an observer status to Hungary in the Turkic Council, approval of the Concept of Integration of Turkic Speaking States and adoption of the Joint Statement on the 90th anniversary of Chyngyz Aitmatov and the Joint Statement on the development of cooperation in the field of national sports and youth.

At the Summit, appointments of Ambassador Bagdad Amreyev as Secretary General of the Turkic Council, Dr. Ömer Kocaman as Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council and Mr. Darkhan Kydyrali as President of the Turkic Academy were approved by the Decision signed by the Heads of State.

At the end of the meeting, Heads of State signed the Cholpon-Ata Declaration of the 6th Summit of the Turkic Council and also underlined the importance of increasing efficiency of Turkic integration based on a Concept Paper to be prepared in consultation with both existing affiliated and related organisations of the Turkic Council and relevant authorities of the Member States to be submitted to the 7th Summit of the Turkic Council.

Alongside, the Chairmanship of the Turkic Council was assumed by the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Sixth Summit was preceded by the opening ceremony of the Third World Nomad Games in Cholpon-Ata with participation of the Heads of State.
