TURKPA delegation participated in the 1st World Nomad Games

September 9, 2014–TurkPA Deputy Secretary General Altynbek Mamaiusupov participated in the opening ceremony of the 1st World Nomad Games took place in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.


While opening the 1st World Nomad Games President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev said that for the first time in Kyrgyzstan a unique project World Nomad Games took place in absolutely new format and emphasized that the games will remain outstanding event in the memory of viewers. President Atambayev expressed gratitude to the presidents of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkey who supported the idea of holding nomad games in the framework of Turkic Council summit held in 2012, Bishkek.

Addressing the wishes of good luck to athletes the President reminded that competitors were offsprings of great nomads like Attila, Oghuz Khagan, Manas, Chenghiz khan and Babur.

The 1st World Nomad Games included competitions like “Kok Boru” – played on horseback with a goat carcass; “Kazakhsha Qures (wrestling)”, “Kyrgyz Qurosh (wrestling),” “Alysh,” and “Oodarysh;” various horse racing events such as “At-chabysh,” “Jorgo-salysh,” “Kunain chabysh;” and the Kyrgyz traditional game of chasing girls on horseback, “Kyz-Kuumai.” More than 350 athletes competed from countries like Azerbaijan, Austria, Afghanistan, Belarus, Germany, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Mongolia Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Sweden, South Korea, Russia Federation, Hungary and South Africa.

The 1st World Nomad Games continued throughout the week, culminating in final competitions on Saturday and Sunday, September 13th and 14th, 2014.

The games will undoubtedly facilitate revival of traditional types of nomadic sport as well as restoration of age-old nomadic culture.
